Chivas Regal raises a glass to entrepreneurship with the launch of The Venture. Held on 30 June at the Aliwal Arts Centre, The Venture will provide local entrepreneurs with a platform that enables them to come together and have an exchange of ideas and potential business opportunities. Through The Venture, Chivas Regal aims to inspire a new generation of aspiring entrepreneurs to achieve business success through collaboration.
Sharing the limelight at The Venture is a total of five social enterprises. Bettr Barista is a coffee academy that offers professional barista training and life and emotional management training to disadvantaged women and youths. Edible Garden City champions the “Grow Your Own Food” movement in Singapore through sustainable natural growing methods, resource recycling and waste minimisation. Empact helps other social organisations with their day-to-day needs by providing them access to skill-based volunteers from both the public and private spheres. Gone Adventurin’ enables companies, including MNCs, to integrate sustainable development goals into their business plans and approaches. Finally, Social Creatives seeks to connect communities together and to enact social change through art. The Venture will empower these enterprises to gain greater exposure for their business and to potentially embark on collaborations with the guests for the evening, some of whom are veteran business owners themselves.
As the world’s first luxury whisky, Chivas Regal’s heritage is rooted in the spirit of entrepreneurship and generosity. Its founding brothers, James and John Chivas, were entrepreneurs with a social conscience who generously contributed to their local community in Aberdeen, Scotland. As their success increased, so did their acts of generosity, leading them to be known as pillars of the community. They embodied the gentlemanly values of the day — an eye for entrepreneurial opportunity, the belief that real success is measured by how many lives that have been enriched, and a commitment to succeed the right way.
The Venture is the latest in a series of initiatives that Chivas Regal has embarked on to support entrepreneurship. In September 2015, Chivas Regal partnered with the Association of Small and Medium Enterprises to present the first ever EYA The Venture award at the 2015 Entrepreneur of the Year Awards (EYA). A sub-award category that recognises the leading social entrepreneur in Singapore, The EYA — The Venture award was conferred on Sunseap Leasing, whose solar leasing business enables companies to become more sustainable by reducing their dependency on traditional sources of electricity.
Globally, The Venture takes the form of an international search to find and support the most promising aspiring social entrepreneurs. With over $1 million in funding and resources, the global implementation of The Venture enables social entrepreneurs from around the world to realise their potential and gain exposure for their business.
“Ever since its founding in 1909, promoting entrepreneurship has been at the heart of Chivas Regal, especially for those who want to succeed whilst making a positive impact on the lives of others. After speaking to local entrepreneurs, we have discovered that what they need is not monetary support, but opportunities for partnership and collaboration. As such, in Singapore, we have launched The Venture to enable social enterprises here to have an exchange of ideas and potential business opportunities. Our aim is to inspire a culture of entrepreneurship by providing them with the support that they might need,” says Ms Kyung Min, Marketing Director, Pernod Ricard Singapore.
Launched in 1909, Chivas Regal is the world’s first luxury whisky and is considered to be a timeless classic, renowned for its style and substance. Brotherhood, generosity, entrepreneurship and integrity are at the heart of Chivas Regal. Over the years, the brand has been running its successful and long running Live with Chivalry campaign, which has inspired Modern Gentlemen around the world to pursue success with integrity and to Win the Right Way. 3 With Speyside at its heart, the Chivas Regal range of Scotch whiskies include Chivas 12 Year Old, Chivas 18 Year Old, Chivas 25 Year Old and Chivas The Icon.
Pernod Ricard was created in 1975 out of the link-up of the two leading French anise-based spirits specialists: Pernod, founded in 1805 and Ricard created by Paul Ricard in 1932. From the 1980’s onwards, the founding companies diversified their product range and developed in Europe, before setting out to conquer major international markets. Pernod Ricard gradually added companies and both international and local flagship brands to its portfolio, and set up a global distribution network by developing its own sales force, now present in more than 70 countries. A series of three acquisitions: part of the Seagram business in 2001, Allied Domecq in 2005 and Vin&Sprit in July 2008 have made Pernod Ricard the world’s co-leader in the sector and the number one in premium and superior quality spirits. Over the years, Pernod Ricard has gradually built up a core portfolio of 15 strategic brands, comprising ABSOLUT, Ballantine’s, Beefeater, Brancott, Chivas Regal, G.H.Mumm, Havana Club, Jacob’s Creek, Jameson, Kahlúa, Malibu, Martell, Perrier-Jouët, Ricard and The Glenlivet.
